Pope Benedict the XVl again rightfully denounced the "egregious crimes" of clerical sexual abuse recently. As usual however he fails to acknowledge abuse of women and discrimination against gay and lesbian persons in the Catholic Church. The refusal to grant women ordination and the continual condemnation of homosexuality as "objectively disordered and... intrinsically evil" are egregious violations of human rights. The Catholic Church over the last 100 years has articulated an eloquent defense of human rights on issues ranging from its condemnation of war to the dignity of the poor and immigrants. Why does this brave social justice theology of humanity's sharing in the divine "image and likeness" stop short on issues of gender and sexual relations. Fondly,ET Mc Crone Elevator operator
Vice-President Dunkin' Dick Cheney agreed with neo-con radio host Scott Hennen that giving a terrorism suspect " a dunk in water is a no-brainer ,if it can save lives". Cheney went on to deny that this proposed dunking had anything to do with torture. What did it refer to? Two possibilities come to mind. Perhaps Cheney was advocating the medieval test for verifying if someone was a witch. You see terrorists like witches float. Another possibility may be that with the neo-conservative affinity with Christian fundamentalism this was a reference to baptism by immersion.
